I think I waited too long for the bus.
The statue is on the wide plaza that makes up the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

He has been there too long. His “bluejacket” has turned to bronze.
I wish I still had my pea coat, although it wouldn’t FIT anymore.
He waited with steely resolve for the top brass to arrive. Then he was going to get his sweetie and Duffel off to Buffalo. 😀
When the top brass showed up, he turned into bronze.
I think the bus driver did not want to disturb the nesting bird next to the sack or maybe he was suspicious of seeing a bird with a sailor.
Not a nesting bird. It’s one of those “mooring things” on a pier that they tie a ship’s ropes around.
Oh, then the bus driver wanted “no more” passengers!
As with Al’s comment below, it took me a few seconds.
Apparently not a rapid transit bus he was waiting for.
And if the bus HAD picked him up, he could have ended up on a slow boat to (Indo)China, as I did.
