I have a bone to pick with you …
A turkey wishbone? Is a turkey a staple of holiday feasts in the UK?
Not any more. It used to be. But now it is the cheapest meat. People tend to have duck or goose. Now, and make no bones about it, I prefer chicken.
A fat turkey is the staple of all Thanksgiving Day feasts here, and many Christmas feasts (a ham is the other option for the latter).
Turkey always used to be the Christmas meal here, but you see them in the freezers here now right beside the chicken, and people go for the cheapest – the turkey legs or diced turkey or turkey steaks. SO when it comes to Christmas, people have had turkey throughout the year and want something else then
Turkey is more expensive than chicken here, and whole fresh or frozen turkeys aren’t readily available in stores outside of the holidays. Since turkeys CAME from “the colonies,” odd that they should be cheaper than chicken in the UK.
It is. I would prefer it if it went back to how it used to be when you knew it was getting near Christmas because the Turkeys appeared in the supermarkets
