Begonia After

I nearly DIED outside last fall, but my owner brought me inside.  To thank him I bloomed all winter.  I need to stay on his good side

Backstory: “My Dumpster-Diving Begonias” — When we visited our daughter and son-in-law in Chicago last fall, I admired the huge concrete planters downtown filled with Angel Wing begonias.  When I got home, I asked David Brennan of Brennan’s Plants* if he had any of the begonias.  He didn’t have any in stock, but he gave me several clumps he had thrown into a dumpster from a flower bed he had just cleaned out.  You can see the results above after I planted 3 of the clumps in a pot. Once they leafed out, they did bloom all winter.

* Visit the Brennan’s Plants website and “like” the Brennan’s Plants Facebook page (scroll down to see the shrubs he planted around the new O.U. Inn sign).
